Data Disclosure and Security
As a Post of the American Legion, we share necessary membership data (name, address, email, etc.) with the National and Department (State) American Legion organizations for membership management, subscription fulfillment (e.g., The American Legion Magazine), and administrative purposes. We do not sell or rent our membership or donor lists to external commercial parties.
Except for sharing necessary membership data with the National and Department American Legion, we do not disclose your personal data to any third party, unless required to do so by law.
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Collection of Personal Data (Membership & Donations)
We collect personal information when you join as a member, renew your membership, make a donation, or register for an event. This data may include your name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, payment information (processed securely by a third party), and military service details necessary for American Legion membership verification. We use this information solely to process your membership, manage your donations, and communicate with you about Post 86 news and events.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Donation and Payment Processing
All donations and raffle ticket purchases made through our website are processed by secure, third-party payment processors (such as Square or Wave). We do not store your full credit card details on our servers. The processor receives your card information directly and is solely responsible for its security.
