  • Post Command elections are held annually in November at the regular monthly assembly.
  • The successful slate of candidates is then officially sworn in and installed at the January meeting, commencing their tour of duty.

In the event that an Executive Committee position is left vacant or becomes vacant, any eligible member of Post 86 may contact the Executive Committee to volunteer for the position and receive details on the appointment process.

The Executive Committee, or Post Command, is responsible for the administrative and fiscal oversight of American Legion Post 86. Understanding the hierarchy ensures effective communication and accountability within the Post.

  • Commander: The Chief Executive Officer and presiding officer of the Post, responsible for the overall mission and command authority.
  • Vice Commanders (1st, 2nd, 3rd): Serve as advisors to the Commander and carry out specific operational duties and responsibilities, acting in the Commander’s stead when necessary.
  • Adjutant: The primary administrative officer, responsible for correspondence, record-keeping, and membership documentation.
  • Financial Officer: Responsible for the secure handling and financial reporting of all Post funds and assets, ensuring strict fiscal accountability (Resource Mgmt).
  • Judge Advocate: Provides guidance to the Commander and Post on all matters concerning the Constitution, By-Laws (Standing Orders), and resolutions to ensure legality and adherence to official regulations.
  • Historian: Responsible for collecting, preserving, and chronicling the official record and achievements (Unit History) of the Post throughout its existence for future generations.
  • Chaplain: Responsible for the spiritual welfare of the Post, offering prayer, support, and comfort to members and their families, particularly during times of need or illness.
  • Sergeant at Arms: The Post’s chief disciplinarian and custodian. Responsible for maintaining order, protecting the Post charter, and managing the flags and ritualistic equipment during meetings.
  • Post Service Officer: Dedicated to assisting veterans and their families with claims and resources, serving as the essential link to the County and State Veteran Services.
