The American Legion Post 86 Annual Patriot’s Promise Raffle is our primary Operational Support Mission. Proceeds from this drawing are deployed directly to the Post General Fund to ensure mission continuity. Your participation secures the critical infrastructure and resources required to sustain our facility and execute our standing orders: supporting our local veterans, funding student scholarships, and the local community.

I. Core Mission Objectives

  1. Cadet Sustainment Initiative (Scholarships): Funding for the next generation of leadership through our annual high school scholarship program.
  2. Local Veteran Support: Resources allocated to support community outreach events, direct veteran assistance, and sponsorships within East Texas.
  3. Operational Assurance: Funding the essential infrastructure and facility costs required to maintain the Post as a dedicated headquarters for veteran service.

II. Directive to Participate

Your purchase continues this tradition of community support and fiscal commitment to our veterans and their families. Every raffle ticket sold is a resource secured for the Post’s operational readiness. By participating, you are directly funding local advocacy, youth programs, and emergency assistance for veterans in the Nacogdoches community. Your contribution ensures the continuity of American Legion Post 86’s mission: to serve our veterans, their families, and our community with honor and integrity.

Please read the following rules carefully before purchasing your tickets.
By purchasing a raffle ticket, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by all terms, conditions, and compliance requirements of American Legion Post 86.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Winner Requirements: The winner must be at least 18 years of age and must be legally eligible to possess the prize firearm under all applicable federal, state, and local laws in the jurisdiction where they reside, as verified by the transferring FFL dealer.
  • Legal Compliance: All federal, state, and local laws, including those governing the transfer of firearms, must be strictly followed.
  • Multiple Prizes: There is no limit to the number of tickets a person may purchase, and each ticket represents an independent chance to win. A single individual is eligible to win multiple prizes.
  • Drawing Date: The drawing will be held on December 7th (attendance at the Post is not required to win).

Winner Notification & Compliance

Deadlines & Procedures

The following strict deadlines and procedures apply to the winner:

  • Contact Deadline (7 Days): The winner will be contacted within 3 days following the drawing and must respond within 7 calendar days of being contacted to confirm acceptance of the prize.
  • Compliance Deadline (30 Days): The winner must successfully complete the Federal Firearms License (FFL) background check and all necessary legal transfer processes within 30 days of the drawing date.
  • Consequence: Failure to meet either the 7-day response deadline or the 30-day compliance deadline will result in the original ticket being voided.
  • Redraw: If the ticket(s) is voided or individual fails to respond or meet compliance requirements by stated deadlines, a new winner will be drawn from the remaining eligible ticket pool.
  • Privacy: For privacy reasons, the winner will be contacted directly and their identity will not be publicly posted.

Documentation Requirements

To ensure the Post stays compliant with IRS regulations and state laws, you have set the following requirements:

  • Valid ID: All winners are REQUIRED to show a valid State-issued photo identification card (matching the name on the ticket) to claim any prize.
  • Raffle Prize Claim Form: Form ALP86-EVT-001 must be filled out to claim prize.
  • W-9 Form: Required for any prize valued at $600 or more.
  • W-2G Form: Required for prizes valued at $3,000+ OR 300x the ticket price.

Transfer, Shipping, and Fees

  • Fees: The winner is responsible for all associated fees, including FFL transfer fees, taxes, and all shipping and receiving FFL transfer fees for out-of-area prizes.
  • Designated FFL: All prize transfers will be facilitated by our designated FFL dealer, Meadow Ridge Outfitters in Nacogdoches, Texas.
  • Local Winners: Local winners must pick up the firearm at Meadow Ridge Outfitters.
  • Out-of-Area Winners: For winners residing outside the immediate area, the prize will be shipped from Meadow Ridge Outfitters to a licensed FFL dealer in the winner’s area.

Due to current policies of our payment processor, Square, your purchase will be processed using a generic description that complies with their terms.

  • You ARE purchasing tickets for the American Legion Post 86 Patriot’s Promise Raffle for the current year, as detailed above.
  • On the Square Checkout Screen, the item name will appear as “Patriot’s Promise Raffle Tickets.”
  • The transaction on your bank or credit card statement will appear as a generic business charge from American Legion Post 86 or a name associated with our organization.

Who is eligible to purchase a ticket?

Anyone who is 18 years of age or older and who is legally eligible to purchase and possess a firearm is welcome to buy a ticket. You do not need to be an American Legion member to participate.

Do I have to be present to win?

No. You do not need to be present at the Post during the drawing on December 7th to win. The winner will be contacted directly.

How will I be notified if I win?

The winner will be notified exclusively via phone call to the phone number provided at time of purchase. (Please ensure your contact number is correct, and review the Contact Deadline (7 Days) rule in the “Raffle Rules & Conditions” tab.)

Do I have to live in East Texas to purchase a ticket?

No, but you MUST be physically located in the East Texas area at the time of purchase. The online ticket system is provided for the convenience of our local community. By proceeding to payment, you must affirm that you are physically present in East Texas. Once purchased, winners residing outside of East Texas can arrange for shipment to their local FFL dealer.

If I win, can I take cash instead of the firearm?

No. The prize is awarded as the specific firearm (rifle/shotgun) listed on the raffle flyer. The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.

What costs am I responsible for if I win?

The winner is responsible for all associated fees to legally take possession of the firearm, including:

  • All costs related to shipping and insurance if the firearm is shipped out of the Nacogdoches area.
  • FFL transfer fees charged by the receiving dealer.
  • Any applicable sales or use taxes.
